I wasn’t sure at first. “It might be the best thing I’ve ever heard, might be the worst”I told a friend after the first listen. Although that decision was made a long time ago, I’m still listening, still I’m awe, more than 3 decades later so it’s fascination remains. [First added to this chart: 06/23/2020]

Emotionally raw, bruising and brutal - of course - no surprises. It is Joni’s consistency as she skates close to the cliff edge that amazes. [First added to this chart: 06/23/2020]

The first four tracks are exceptional. Thereafter, the tracks reveal themselves to the ear at different speeds so the listener gets a dynamic relationship with the albums balance, weighted with repeated listens towards the back end of the album. One for life. [First added to this chart: 06/23/2020]

I was born and raised by these lyrical gentlemen, their lullabies and ballads as much my soundtrack as the traffic on the road outside and the wind in the trees.

Only when we revisit and revalue do we realise that only living boy in NY and So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright are hidden gemstones, shining and priceless. The Boxer and Bridge may have more Carats but the former are just as valuable, you know.

The payoff for genius - and I’m talking about Prince here as well - is that consistency must come a poor second to creativity. How impressive then that the world’s most brilliantly original female singer songwriter manages to hit the bullseye here so often. Of the 12 songs here 11 are brilliant. Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 90.0/100, a mean average of 89.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 91.9/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 13.3.

Classics and great picks. You're obviously an aficianado, and there's a great range here. We have some similar picks and a similar perspective on the amazing world of music.

Great chart, love the notes.

I agree with your appraisal of some of Dylan's finest albums:
Bringing It, Highway 61, Blonde, Blood and Desire. I would add Another Side and The Freewheelin' to the list.

Overall a great chart!

Simon and Garfunkel and The Carpenters were the soundtrack to my childhood, along with Blondie and Boney M. Did you say you were brought up with S and G too?

What a cool chart, I laughed out loud reading the comment on Pet Sounds.
It might be the best tweet long definition of that album I've seen

Nice chart, great selection of rock with some other styles sprinkled in; bit of jazz, bit of reggae, bit of funk. If you are interested, check out these albums I love from those genres (or sorry if you've heard some or all of them already):

Jazz:
Miles Davis - In a Silent Way
Cannonball Adderley - Why Am I Treated So Bad
Reggae:
Bob Marley - Catch a Fire
The Upsetters - Super Ape (more of a dub-reggae release, but veryyy good)
The Congos - The Heart of the Congos
The Gladiators - Trenchtown Mixup
Funk (admittedly not as much my strong suit)
Betty Davis's first LP I forget the name of
Sly & the Family Stone - Stand!
Curtis Mayfield - Superfly

Always good to see Kate Bush and Talk Talk. Buried way down there you've got some excellent hip hop (De la soul, and I've always been partial to Watch the Throne as well) along with the Public Enemy pick. Curious to the KLFs "White Room" there as well, I'll have to check it out again. If you haven't already you should listen to "Chill Out" by them, its an amazing mostly ambient album that all flows together into one living, breathing collage of music. One of my all time favs.

Definitely an interesting list. I wish it was longer than 10, but as it is it's solid. I enjoy the variety. I really need to listen to Astral Weeks again.
