Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.2/100, a mean average of 72.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.4.

Pleasant to listen to and extremely well-constructed. Meant to be listened to as a complete piece, just like so much of the best KGLW. Even so, Sketches doesn't stick with me and demand listen after listen like their other albums, even in comparison to their other "jazz" record, Quarters. It would be unfair to call it "forgettable," but the chilled-out nature of the record never seems to coalesce into something greater than the sum of its parts. It's simmering but not boiling. And that's okay, right? As the adage goes, give it a few months and there will be a new and wildly different new Gizz record to dig into and enjoy (and in this case, there was: the powerhouse Polygondwanaland)!
What an album, these guys should take the jazzy road more often!
I have heard all of King Gizzard last five albums - Nonagon Infinity through to Polygondwanaland. I do find their output between albums a bit patchy. I think they struck gold with this one - love the jazzy feel and Flying Microtonal Banana. The others I'll probably skip.
This definitely represents the peak of King Gizzard's softer albums (Quarters, Paper Mache) to date. (Possibly may become my fav gizz album period). Beautifully chilled out pace and soundscapes. Jazzy. Still has that weird, warped (and at times, humorous) feel that runs through their entire discography.
Weirdly enough, this might be my personal favorite record out of the 5 album ordeal. The jazzy and chilled instrumentation and blissful vibe is just winning me over. People that have found them early on would call this "pap" but this was just a clever record that still has the oddities of the band. Just in a different suit.
The great sound of King Gizzard with the added atmospheric electric piano tapestries from Mild High.. Love it! Microtonal stuff makes it even more interesting.
Too many albums? Not if they're all good to great!
Starts off a bit slow, but then Tezeta plays and your eyes are opened to the brilliance of King Gizzard and the Wizard freaking Lizard!
@SaulCortes1992 cuz Gizzard DGAF!
Doesn't hit on first listen, but I know the next few listens will hit me hard. Last tracks are amazing
