Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Stephin Merritt ( ben più di un terzo dei Magnetic Fields ) scrive 69 canzoni d'amore ed intitola quindi l'album che le contiene "69 love songs"; poi ne scrive altre i cui titoli li fa iniziare con la lettera "i" e l'album lo chiama ? Esatto: "i". I titoli sono quindi un pretesto per Merritt per veicolare la sua arte pop, scarna ma sublime, povera eppure ricchissima, qui un pelo al di sotto del monumentale "69 love songs" ma ben al di sopra di ciò che si sentirà nei successivi dischi dei Magnetic Fields.
Not sure how people who found 69 Love Songs missed "i".

The songs on i idle by in a more languid mood than many of those already featured in Stephin Merrits oevre, if anything, this adds to rather than detracting from the album, lending it a unique and a much-appreciated appeal. Cool.
A beautiful album with just really sweet songs. I don't think there's another band that can match the charm that The Magnetic Fields radiate through an entire album. Not a single underwhelming song on the entire record.
