Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 5% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.5/100, a mean average of 78.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 8.5.

Love this album! It's really grown on me over the last few years and the CD is on regular rotation in the car for long journeys.
A little change in direction, a good thing for a band that in my opinion could have become a little boring. Maybe their best effort to date, It certainly contains one of my favourites, Night City
The Sword got labeled "doom metal" early on, but I'd be more generous and just call them "retro metal." The Sabbath influence is apparent; in fact, the vocal delivery is very Ozzy (which is to say competent, befitting of the style, but not especially mind-blowing). But Warp Riders is everything I want in a metal record: heavy guitars and a sci-fi/fantasy concept (in this case, it's about a planet suffering through a tidal locking, which has created perpetual day for one half of the planet and, for the other, perpetual night). Oh yes.
Okay, so the lyrics are a LITTLE cheesy, but that hardly takes away from the enormity of this album.
