Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.5/100, a mean average of 73.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 19.4.

who complains about the ambient peace after such vicious heavy black metal, just b/c it goes on forever? that's the point. then when the guitars (and chainsaw?!) come back at the end it's just epic.
it's done better in Hvis Lysett Tar Oss but 2nd to that is still perfect.
Iconic black metal album ... unfortunatly made by a mentally ill fascist !
this is the first black metal album I've found where that indiscernible screaming actually suits the music. To be fair I claim to know nothing about black metal at all, but still. The music is so raw and abrasive, it fits
Also, many people dont like the 25 minute long thing, but I think it's actually a fairly interesting ambient piece.
Like it's a black metal masterpiece, the tracks here are gorgeous and some of the best in the genre. But I can fathom for the life of me who would waste their time sitting through 25 minutes of nonsense that is Rundgang Um Die Transzendentale Saule Der Singularitat...
Varg did it better in Hvis Lyset Tar Oss balancing 3 masterpieces with Tomhet (a much better dark ambient piece).
Otherwise this is complete Black Metal perfection.
One of the best Black Metal albums ever!
This is a great black metal album, excellent dark riffs for anyone who is looking for obscure music. The first track is specially good. On the downside, that 25 minute track steals a lot from the album. It just can't be ignored, its 25 minutes long!!!! That substracts a lot of points but you can always skip it.
This is a great album to start off with if you want to dig into the true, dark, Norwegian black metal scene.
The first 3 or 4 tracks are pretty good. The vocals work very well with the instrumentation and while it doesn't have an atmosphere that pulls me in, it certainly has a feel all its own. However, I can't for the life of me fathom why anyone would want to sit through the same sound over and over for 25 minutes. I have better things to do with my time.

Amazing stuff! This is softly heavy. Soft for the ears. Heavy for the soul.
I've just started listening to Blackmetal, and I've already fallen in love with Burzum. This is as dark and beautiful as it gets. The first track is phenomenal. The long ambient track could have been trimmed a bit though.
This is not pleasant music, but it's extremely raw, nerve-wrecking and emotional.
