Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 15% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.5/100, a mean average of 74.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.4.

The Cult, similar to other bands like AC/DC, have a signature sound that makes a lot of their songs sound "samey", which can be good or bad, depending on whether you like them or not. And this album is mostly no exception. First 8 tracks are good, and 10 is decent too. But "Born to be Wild" is not too good, even as a cover. The rule for covers should be the same as movie remakes - if you're not going to be better than the original, or at least just as good in a different way, don't do them. "Memphis Hip Shake" just sounds like an experimental jam session that somebody recorded. But other than that, pretty good album.
Holy rock, this album riffs and shreds, a pleasant surprise.
This is quite a throwaway album that after you have listened to it once or twice there is no real reason to come back. It is just lacking quite a bit of substance and good tracks with most of it being filler. There are a couple good songs with some great guitar riffs on there but nothing to save the record. The cover of Born To Be Wild is poor as well. Everything is just too simple and really is quite a dull and bland listen. Overall I have no real desire to listen to this album again but not because it is really bad but just because there isn't anything to it.
This is what the Cult sound like. Unmistakable. The 'hits' are the best songs on this album. No hidden deep cut gems. Rest is alright but nothing spectacular
The songs on this, aside from Love Removal Machine and Born to Be Wild, are just barely a cut above a dad band rehearsing in a garage. The only reason I like the two aforementioned songs is because the remind me of things I actually like (Guitar Hero, Steppenwolf). You'd think this band would be good live, but you'd be wrong. I saw these guys open for Bush and STP (they were obviously totally out of place) and they were by far the worst band of the night.
Very Zeppelin-esque. Lil Devil and Love Removal Mchine kick ass.
While the songs are decent, the guitar-work on this album is fantastic. It's like the band just told Billy Duffy to go nuts and he did. Virtually each and every solo is excellently executed.
Typical Cult in that you'll get some catchy tunes without a whole lot of ground breaking material. Wild flower, Lil Devil and Love removal machine are the stand out tracks.
Other than the abysmal version of Born to Be Wild, this is a great album. Good semi-hard rock n' roll, with Love Removal Machine and Lil' Devil leading the way.
