Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.5/100, a mean average of 75.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.6.

Sun King is a great opener; Fire Woman and Soul Asylum the next favourites.
Good album all around.

The album where the Cult reached the big time, but with some sacrifice to the originality of the sound they had created. The first side is much better than the second and contains the four hits.

Outstanding album! Lots of great hard rockin' cuts with a little ballad thrown in for variety. The as yet unmentioned but positively outstanding deep cut is "American Horse."

A bit more melancholy than their last two efforts and not quite as memorable, but a album that manages to be accessible hard rock without being full blown metal. It definitely peaks in the middle.

To me, good or bad, these guys are much like Def Leppard.

The Cult has fully transformed from a Gothic rock outfit to a fully fledged hair metal band. Perfect timing as thanks to Guns 'n' Roses, keyboards had been ditched as an instrument. Great production, great songs and vastly improved guitar work. Classics for me are: Fire Woman, Edie, Sweet Soul Sister, Soul Asylum, Soldier Blue and Wake Up Time For Freedom.
