From the opening bars of track 1 "hard rain" ( all tracks are oddly in lower case) its clear this is Lykke Li but not as we know her . Gone are the jungle drums , gone are the piano's and driving guitars , gone are the anthem like tracks and what we have instead are the trade mark LL heartbreaking lyrics set to radio friendly Pop/R&B sty-lings from top to bottom
Now this U-Turn musicality isn't necessarily a bad thing and TBH good on her for taking a chance and following her artistic vibe , however I just don't like R&B Pop ... in fact I hate it . Houston we have a problem !
Title track "so sad so sexy" is a nice ballad that could have appeared on 2014's rather excellent 'I Never Learn' whilst closer "utopia" saves the best for last and could just (maybe) break LL through to the mainstream consciousness
Unfortunately the expletives on this album feel misplaced whilst 'jaguars in the air' and 'sex money feelings die' down right stink
It will be really interesting what LL does next and in the mean time I'll remain a fan
