Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 22% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.0/100, a mean average of 73.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.1.

She finally made the album I wanted
The first half of this album has brilliant songwriting (if the final result is not particularly my cup of tea) but it really tails off toward the end.

I'm surprised that generally the reviews for this album have been middling at best
I really like this album , like all good albums it takes time and multiple listens to reveal itself and underneath the hood is an honest earnest release where-by Welsh bares her soul touching on love , suicide , drug use and an eating disorder just to name a few
My recommendation would be to open your mind to this album and give it a go , have several listens and you'll be rewarded
60/100
You know what you are going to get from Florence. It will be well-written, it will be well-played, it will be well sung. Unnerving consistency and just about different enough from previous records to not be repeating herself.
A beautiful earnest record, with lush orchestration and some of Florence's best songwriting to date. Up there with the best of this year.
