Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 4% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.6/100, a mean average of 78.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 7.7.

Bright, glorious, shimmeringly brilliant indie pop that leaves contemporaries in its wake. There's no pretentiousness here nor any attempt to disguise the britpop underpinnings, For Now is a blast every time you listen to it; one of those records where every track could be a single in its own right.
What's better still is that beyond the comparisons to Oasis and other britpop giants, the band have taken a wealth of inspiration from all the right sources. The title track and 'Do I Need You Now' exuding similar vibes to The Verve, whilst 'In The Air' has a wonderfully shoegaze feel to it. The most dancy cut on the record, 'The End', is a neat addition too, and adds even more diversity.
And then there's the album cover. Just look at it, effortlessly simple, with the over-contrasted picture of the band and that shade of red seemingly conveying the sound and feel of the album - bold, straight-talking and well-presented. I dig the font choices too, they clearly knew what they were aiming for with that.
For Now works because, like any record blatantly inspired by earlier styles, it doesn't hide its imitation. Instead, it only asks you to embrace it as much it does, and come along for the ride. Given that its pacing and energy are both bang-on, that is a very easy ask.
An essential piece of modern, easy-listening, well intentioned, wanna-be britpop, and certainly one of the best pop records of the last few years.
Better than its predecessor Hill's End. This album has some more variation between the songs, showing musical improvement of these guys. Ends with the highlight of the album, Emily Whyte. Really like the more intimate songs of the DMA's.

I'm a slave to melody and god damn it Sydney's DMA's deliver again with another album choc full of delicious Manchester inspired hooks and wonderful melody's . Their 2015 sophomore release 'Hills End' was superb and so is 2018's 'For now'.
So many highlights here , from twin openers "For Now" and "Dawning" , to "Warsaw" , "Do I need You Now?" and closer "Emily White" which brings things home perfectly
Unfortunately "Lazy Love" and "Tape Deck Sick" in the back 3rd don't hit the mark , but there is enough goodness over all to over come these flops
Contender for 2018 Album Of The Year ? ABSOLUTELY
