Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 23% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.8/100, a mean average of 73.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.6.

A surprisingly good album that grew on me after a few listens. A lot of the lyrics are cryptic and don't sound like they make sense which is typical of a Justin Vernon project but it all sounds good and you can at least pick up the feeling from his voice.

I guess I loved it way more than the average lister did, cuz I absolutely fell in love with this album. Its exactly what I was expecting a Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner collaborative album to sound like, and it is exactly what I wanted, so I couldn't be happier.
I still think it should be way higher on the chart, but I also get if it didn't excite everyone the way it did me. Brilliant, brilliant productions all over though.

Another beautiful album by Justin Vernon, he keeps making me happy. 8/10.
Damn, this is great. Great combination of the latest work of both Vernon and Dessner. Perfect for 2018, fits in this time and deserves a high place on the end of the year list in my opinion.
Great music and so many combined and balanced influences !!

There are some cool folktronica sounds here, as explored on Bon Iver's "22, A Million." However, while that album is one of my all time favorites, the songs on this one seem much more repetitive and generic. The songs kinda do the same thing for 3 to 5 minutes and then end. Still enjoyable, but not really worth listening to a lot.
75/100 (Above Average)
