Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 80.8/100, a mean average of 79.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.5.

Has a really bad sound and very repetitive, far from being this bands peak moment; as far as I am concerned Human is just practice for the far superior Symbolic.

Anyone who reads this and is a fan of this particular brand of technical metal is going to be very upset with the following statement:

Just because you CAN play doesn't mean that you SHOULD.

There are some enjoyable moments on the album for even the most casual metal listener (Suicide Machine especially), and the band can play the hell out of their respective instruments, but ultimately the average listener will merely come away with the impression that they just got bludgeoned on the head for 33 minutes and change.

Signed,
Not a Fan, But I Get It

Best production on a Death album up to the point of this release. Right away Sean Reinert's impact was felt in a huge way, to say he was a two cuts above anyone who had played in this band before him is an understatement. Both the drumming itself and the sound of the kit on Human is the best Chuck had to work with yet. What a fucking musician.

At some points of this album, it's almost jarring how much of a shift there started to be in the way of odd time changes and other types of odd phrasings. This a much more progressive band than they were on the release the year before, Spiritual Healing. Don't get me wrong, it's still very much Death, and an must-listen, but very different than their first act. A great record far ahead of it's time.

This was the start of an incredible 4 album streak that would close Death's career due to Chuck unfortunately passing away. Human is a more technical and progressive release compared to their earlier work as displayed on the instrumental Cosmic Sea. One of the finest death metal albums ever. Pummeling yet intricate.

This was the fourth Death album I'vle listened to and so far it's the weakest (but still really good of course since it's Death) in my opinion. I may have not been in the right mood, but on this album I understood the complaints about the vocals. On Spiritual Healing, Sound of Perseverance, and Symbolic I could understand what was being sung, but here I couldn't hardly at all no matter how I tried. But the riffs and melodies alone make this STILL a great album.

Most people call "Symbolic" Death's best album but in my opinion this album matches, if not surpasses, that album's quality
