Shortlisted for album of the year at the 1972 Grammy's. The eventual winner was Tapestry by Carole King (Edited)

The three songs belong to the canon of light pop music forever. With those I can easily give 80

I received this album as part of an extended family blind Christmas gift exchange... when I was seven... not the best gift to land in the hands of a seven year old. Nevertheless, I had a cheap record player I threw the album on... and at the tender age of seven, instantly fell in love with Karen's voice.
Superstar was my favorite song. Today, nearly a half century later, I'm still in love with Karen's voice and I believe Rainy Days and Mondays is the best Carpenters song ever and a solid 100.
The criticism for them seems arbitrary. Their arrangements are incredible. It's 10 steps beyond feel-good music

This record fails the same way Double Fantasy fails. If it had been all Lennon, it would be one of the greatest records of all time. If this LP had been all Karen, it would also go down as one of the greatest of all time.
