Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.9/100, a mean average of 77.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.5.

Postpunk pop, with lots of early rock&roll guitars and chorus vocals. Talking Heads & Costello influences are evident. The length of the songs and style got boring in some instances, rhythmic choices seem to get stuck sometimes.
The quality of the singers remains obscure as the style is so punky, mostly screaming and high pitch tendencies are evident. The guitar's sounds are not aggressive, with only mild distortion is used.
Do not hate or dislike, neutral. 73/100

This album definitely has its moments, but most of it sounds like it is full of jokes that just don't land.

Such a quirky album, they really managed to capture a unique feel to all their songs which I love! It's a little bit post-punk, a little bit pop, a little bit new wave and that's the beauty of the album, you don't know what's going to happen next!

Favourite tracks are 'Dance This Mess Around' and the classic 'Rock Lobster'. Love the vocals on 'Dance This Mess Around' - the sudden belt out of 'Why don't you dance with me' gets me every time, amazing vocals by Cindy Wilson (and the call and response between her and Schneider is awesome!) - Also gotta love the lyric 'Do the Hip O Crit'!

All in all, an album I always come back to and an amazing debut!
