Back when I lived in Western North Carolina, there was a place called the Jordan Street Cafe in Brevard, North Carolina, where a group of friends and I would meet up. I wasn't exactly a regular, but it was the kind of place that had a warm and inviting feel, and I could count on running into friends just about every time I went. Singer/songwriter Tyler Ramsey used to play there solo sometimes, and at the time I thought highly of him as a singer, songwriter, and guitar player, and wondered how it was possible we had him all to ourselves in such a tiny venue. His songs reminded me of the North Carolina mountains I'd grown to love so much: the sound of water running over rock, the smell of galax and wet leaves, the way sunlight filtered down through the trees on an October afternoon. For the Morning possesses all these qualities, while also revealing the lyrical texture that's been added to his songwriting and performing as a result of spending years touring with indie folk band Band of Horses as their lead guitarist. "A Dream of Home," the highlight here, pulls all these elements together into one of the truly great songs of the 2010s.

A lot of hard work happens in the background to keep BEA running, and it's especially difficult to do this when we can't pay our hosting fees :(
