The "10-5-60" EP (Mini-album) from 1983 was the initial studio-release from the Long Ryders. It consists of five (possibly 6) really fine country rockers and it rays with energy and talent. The songs are in different degrees based on country and rock respectively, at times with a touch of punk. Most often with crisp, well-sounding guitars that can easily may lead the mind towards one of the group's big inspirations, The Byrds.
The title track is a strong melodic rocker written by guitarist Sid Griffin and Barry Shanks. Griffin is also behind another strong rocker "Join My Gang". Griffin shows songwriter's versatility by also delivering the very melodic country ballad "Born to Believe in You". With drummer Greg Sowders Griffin also wrote "And She Rides"; perhaps the song that impresses me the least. Two other members Stephen McCarty and Des Brewer are behind the country rocker "I Don't Care What's Right". If you are lucky and have found a 5-track version you will be delighted with "The Trip", which comes from a later session. Another fine melodic rocker written by guitarist Stephen McCarthy.
A most promising first play from a talented group, who on the following three albums, should really unfold.
