Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.3/100, a mean average of 75.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.2.

Pleasant enough stuff but I prefer John Paul White’s solo albums. This feels rather flat in comparison.
Reminds me of the Plant/Kraus collaboration.
Ok but the whole thing sound manufactured to me.
I first heard the song Barton Hollow and thought these guys reminded me of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. After hearing the album, which doesn't have anything else quite as raucous as that track, I think they're more like Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova.
I'm going to have to agree with alexfields. These people are clearly pop artists. Joy Williams had been recording Christian Pop music for a decade prior to the formation of this group. The harmonizing is pleasant. If you're into vocals, the album is nice. I just have a hard time shaking the fact that Williams was originally marketed as a Christian Britney Spears. The chick is from Santa Cruz. A California beach town. Pretty far from "Barton Hollow"-
The songwriting is solid, and the vocal harmonizing is lovely, but this album kindof sounds like a couple of songwriters who don't know anything about country trying to do country. The country and folk stylings just feel a little fake, which makes the whole album a little less enjoyable than it could have been.
