Yet again, Denzel Curry comes through with maybe the best hip hop release of the year. And yet again, I so badly wish it was twice as long.
Unlocked thrives on its beats. Kenny Beats weaves multiple unique tracks with curving basslines, beats that cut in and out, and old horror movie clips. Denzel Curry has some fun lyrics and effectively employs a DMX like flow. The briefness of the project greatly limits it however. The bulk of the tracks only have one verse and it prevent Curry from building up any momentum. This also prevents a lot of the beats from reaching their peak before a new one will begin.
The high- and low-pitched voices are annoying, no flowing beats, no rapvoices that are attracting to my ears. To sum up: nothing that I want to hear again. They didn't even take the time to came up with appropriate song names and instead named them with totally random names. The only good thing that I can think of: the whole album lasts only 18 minutes, so the torture is over pretty quickly.
