Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.9/100, a mean average of 76.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.6.

“1. A month or so ago I started this album, heard the first incredible track and stopped. I stopped because I was in the middle of doing other stuff and I knew I'd interrupt the album and for all albums that is a little bit of a no-no but for an album like this - a sort of intricately produced,…”

Beautiful! Loved the singles and the album is great too. He's becoming a modern day "genius" of crafting wonderful, emotional and goose bump inducing inspiring music.

It is as if the limitations of the English language are a barrier on this album, because there is so much weight and significance put on every syllable of every word, and it still doesn't feel enough. You have to listen to this with the same intensity as Mike puts into it to get on the same wavelength.

This album just goes on to prove that Perfume Genius is one of the most important queer artists in music right now.

Mike Hadres makes it a hat trick of consecutive exceptional albums franking his status as one our times most important male solo performers

Stylistically , musically and lyrically ‘Set My Heart On Fire Immediately’ sets itself apart from the pack as one of 2020’s standout releases

I really liked "No Shape" but I feel like this album improves on everything PG was doing on that record. Honestly, this project is so much more emotionally evocative, purposeful, and coherent. My early fav of 2020 for sure.

"Set My Heart On Fire Immediately" is such a lush intimate work. Hadreas puts such emotion into every song. I love the reoccurring theme of emotional vulnerability. The climax to this is the gentle "Jason", which describes the encounter with soft vocals and fairy tale harpsichord. "Your Body Changes Everything" is sharp with synths and electric flutes. Unfortunately, I do think the album has some flaws. I do think some of the quieter tracks have less presence. "Borrowed Light" is a weaker closer than I would have hoped. The whole of album is strong enough that I'm glad it opened up to us.
