Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 4% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.9/100, a mean average of 75.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.0.

Hasn't aged well
This album was unmissable and everywhere in the early 2000s—blasting from every bar, stereo car, party, nightclub, hotel lounge or elevator. Maybe the first CD boosted by global Internet.
But, fast forward 24 years, and it's like finding an old pair of bell-bottoms in your closet—what once felt trendy and modern now feels dull.
The only track that stands the test of time is "Porcelain," the most accomplished piece by far of this 'dated' opus.
A masterpiece, top 100 albums in history
A magnum opus. This album is full of perfectly constructed tracks which segue brilliantly into each other. A masterpiece in it's own right.
I expected more based on a high rating and position, also being in the 1001 ALbums book it should have grabbed me more.
Some great tracks on this, but there's a bit too much filler on it for my liking (especially in the second half of the album). Highlights are Natural Blues, Porcelain and If Things Were Perfect. Very unique, very chilled, well worth a listen. But a bit overrated for me.
a classic.a beautiful album.lie down close your eyes and let your mind wander. chill.

A unique and original for its day - there was just nothing like it at that time. Moby has had some fine albums since, but there's just something dynamic about "Play".
This is a great album with a lot of really good songs. It's a little rambling and long for my taste, however.
