Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.5/100, a mean average of 70.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.6.

A very fine album from one of the most prolific musicians. Very safe and solid

I take back my comment from years ago, this has some great tracks I forgot about (Lifetimes). At least four songs are standout Van Morrison performances including Walking in Venice and Santa Fe, former a lengthy delight, the latter a lengthy slow jam. The first cut and the title cut are more accessible.

Decent album, but far from Van's best of course. The last three tracks are the highlight for me

Awful cover but a few really good songs. Not as complete as the top vm record though. The title track, the opener and natalia are favourites.

There really are only two great songs on this, the opener and the title track. On the rest, Van just does not seem to be too deeply inspired. Still, this is Van Morrison.
