'Patrick Bateman' is a solid rocker to start the album, but next song, 'Hold That Thought' is brilliant. It starts with a beat that reminds me of Queens of the Stone Age then bursts into a very cool bridge and verse. Heaps of fun and a clear favourite. I did not love, 'High, Wide and Stupid' at first - something about the vocals/lyrics I think. But is has a very cool central riff and a few almost blues sounds, such as the opening. 'Turn the Bow' is slow and fuzzed-out, but still quite heavy in its delivery. 'Winter Western' starts rather broodingly, but really builds towards the end. 'Beyond the Valley of the Snakes' starts as a cool song, but goes a little too long. 'Sunday Best' is one of the best slow, acoustic songs I have heard in ages. The next few are decent rockers; the 10 minute 'Defy and Surrender' probably the best of them with its Helmet-like bass. Final track, 'Innocents', is a little slower, but quite moody. I much preferred the first half, but this is the sort of rock album I like seeing released in these times.

A lot of hard work happens in the background to keep BEA running, and it's especially difficult to do this when we can't pay our hosting fees :(
