If you were into the alternative rock sound of nirvana back in the early 90s, then give these guys a listen. You might remember them from their mid-90s post-grunge hit "bound for the floor", but i really haven't paid attention to them until now. This album shows local h off as some sort of early 90s alt torch bearer, as the foo fighters once seemed. Not only do they evoke nirvana, but i also hear smashing pumpkins (guitars in "say the word") and fuzzed-out stp (on "trash fire bummers" and "ruling kind"). You might even hear some 80s cheap trick here and there, like on "feed a fever". This guitar-and-drums duo delivers thoughtful lyrics and "the rawk". Another thing these guys bring on "hallelujiah!..." is a political bent concept album, complete with a sarah palin soundbites (but i read they've ticked off people of both parties, so don't let the political bend deter you), so mind your blues'n'reds. (One of the best songs on the album is "they saved reagan's brain".) Outside of their 1996 song "bound for the floor", i completely forgot about these guys -- glad i happened upon tinymixtapes' review (http://www.tinymixtapes.com/music-review/local-h-hallelujah-im-a-bum).
