Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. This album is the big disappointment of the Ash line of albums. Almost everything couldn't have made it onto 1977. Would not have liked being a fan of the band the day this was released. Thankfully got it much later.
Was a big let down after the impressive 1977 album. A much denser sounding record due to the band adding an extra guitarist but the songs just aren't really up to scratch. Has a couple of great riffs here and there and they would soon bounce back in style with the excellent Free All Angels.
