Top 40 Music Albums of 1998

Interesting year. Apart from the few at the very top, nearly all others are very hard to put into any definitive order as they are all very equal in caliber. Compilations, Greatest hits etc ranked after studio albums. Only fair on a year list
My favorite songs from 1998
Neutral Milk Hotel - Oh Comely
Metallica - Am I Evil?
Rob Zombie - Dragula
Metallica - So What
Neutral Milk Hotel - The Fool
System of a Down - Spiders

93.18 I'd never even heard of these guys prior to coming onto this site. Being rated so high I gave it a listen on Spotify, thought it was alright and managed to track myself down a copy. It took a few listens before it fully clicked with me as I initially found the vocals a tad grating. Now I find it very addictive and have it on high rotation.
The sequencing and seguing from one song to the next is total perfection. An absolute true gem of an album. [First added to this chart: 04/25/2021]

83.63* The album that brought Electronic/Dance music to the masses. Even though massively commercial, you can't knock it as it's loaded with catchy tunes and rhythms. Where he established himself as one of the kings of electronic beats. Even if Dance/Electronica isn't your jam, you can't help but love this. 03/25

83.46* Shit hot debut. Where the building blocks were being laid to establish the sound and style that make them completely unique. I always seem to have a misconception with this album, thinking it's not as good as it is, due to all their other albums being greater. Even though it's the runt of the litter within their catalog, this is a fucking fantastic album 03/25

83.33 Fantastic original sound. Bit of a metal/alternative hybrid. Packed with great rhythms and no filler. Solid right through. Best album they made under the name HLAH or Head Like A Hole

83.07 You know what you're getting with Monster Magnet. Solid stoner rock/metal and consistency right throughout the album. I have found with this one however, it's hasn't kept the mind blowingness it gave me in the past. Don't get me wrong, still a fucking fantastic album, just not holding the test of time like a lot of their other albums 10/23

82.22 I know they're covers, but by god they're brilliant. Some way better than the originals, some not so but overall, this is a fantastic album.

78.84 Great. Proper Metal. Horror themed Metal with industrial flurries but still decent Metal. A nice touch is that it's broken up with short different toned interludes that add some variety and help it from all blending into one. It does dip in the back end though. 02/25

You can't mistake a white boy sounding like a black artist more than this. Hence the title is spot on as it's also full of white boy rock rap blues. There's a couple of standouts (Ends, What it's Like) but mostly it's slightly above average rap rock that drifts along nicely. 01/25

78.076* Good brand of alt folk. This is the best I've heard from him. In most cases with his albums about midway through I'm reminded why I don't listen to his albums that often. He's got a unique style and vocals that can take a few listens to warm too. I have warmed nicely to this one though. 02/26

77.50 Cracking rockabilly punk, punk/pop. Some top class tunes on this. Tails off at the very back end. Better than it's given credit for. It's improving the more I listen. 02/24
