Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 82.3/100, a mean average of 81.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 82.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.7.

The first time I listened to this album I enjoyed it but didn't think it was anything special. The second time I thought the quality was a lot better but didn't get the insane amount of hype it gets. On my third listen I realised how wrong I was as instantly I was stunned by Chameleon which is just 15 minutes of pure genius and I loved every second of it. The album carries on from there with Watermelon Man and Sly being just as sensational. However, the closer (Vein Melter) is definitely a dip in quality as it is just so slow compared to the other tracks and doesn't create the same sort of flow as the rest of the record. It does act as a calming closer to a very energetic album though and so I find it is extremely helpful and does serve an importance to the record. The instrumentation on this record is so incredible that it is tough to even fault it at all and the significance this album had in music history makes it one of the greatest records of all time without a doubt.

Head Hunters is great. The 15-minute Chameleon is so funky and fun to listen to, it seems to go by in a third of that time. And don't forget, possibly the best self updated version song ever with the awesome reinterpretation of Watermelon Man. The last two tracks are incredible as well, just less notable.
