One of the most long lasting, varied, and capable composer/musicians in music history. From hard bop to soul jazz to funk and electronic, he could, and did, do it all, usually at a very high level. If you're interested, don't just pick one album and give up if you don't take to it, but rather grab a different album from a different era as it's likely to be a whole different ball of wax.
