Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 67.0/100, a mean average of 63.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 63.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.1.

It's fun I'll give it that.

55-80/100 (These grades I sometimes use indicate a certain range of thoughts on the album - sort of how I see it at a bad angle to how I see it at a good angle. Usually I end up grading on BEA with something in between. This helps me for albums that I appreciate but maybe just not in the mood for, That (hypothetical) album may be a 75/100 but I'm vibing with it like its a 5 or 6. This also can help remind me of albums to revisit at later dates to see how I am viewing then. Idk. Just wanted to note that on this note cuz this range is more drastic and wide than any others I've listened to the last couple weeks.
This album started off soooo freakin great! The first song sounds like Tom Waits with Phil Lynott on vocals! The drumming is so powerful. The jazz sound is so sick, - yeah "Unpossible" is so cool.
And tracks 2 and 3 are similarly cool. The swaggering Lynott style vocal mannerisms take over even more. There is a moment at the end of track 3 or 4 where I was completely on board with this sound, this vocalist, the drumming (the drumming is cool throughout the whole album) the whole vibe and style of the album. Then I don't know, the songs became gratingly humorous and "oh-so-cool" and affectedly distant. The vocal coolness started really coming across more and more false, the whole momentum of the LP came on hard and by the 2/3rds point of the record I had lost interest. Maybe Its a bit of burn out from listening to so much music. Maybe its that I have only gotten 9 hours sleep the last 2 nights for some ridiculously stupid reason, The reason could be a lot of things. The point is the first 12-13 minutes of this album I was sooooo fucking digging it, like 9/10 level good. Then the last half or so was a 4.5-5.5 level. I'll split the babayyy and say its a 70, and come back to this at a later date.
The first few tracks are seriously killer and I can't get over how dope "Unpossible" really is. As a Tom Waits fan I was just smitten.
