Released in 1996, this album features 25 highlights of Bandleader Woody Herman and his orchestra's performances from 1939 -1945 recorded in several different settings, from New York City to Los Angeles and with a stop in Chicago for one session to record "A String Of Pearls." Kaz Records, a division of Castle Communications, Inc. , put out this album (Cat # KAZ CD 306) as Volume 6 in a 20 Volume series featuring the original sounds of the Classic Big Bands. Some of Jazz's greatest instrumentalists are featured as members of Herman's ensemble including Ben Webster, Johnny Hodges and Tommy Linehan. This is a decent highlights package of the sounds of the late 30s and early 40s.
