(Minimalistic, melancholic, beautiful. Just Lael and her Omnichord and some guitar and some austere ballads.)
This is an interesting album. It really is very minimalistic, austere, beautiful and heartfelt. Its a vast majority just voice and omnichord and guitar. The songs are given room to take center stage with this simple backdrop. The melodies are engaging and the vocal performances are bare and heartfelt. The sense of melancholy and wonder is strong throughout. Somehow despite being very stripped down, the atmosphere and sound of this album is quite unique and distinguishes itself from the many other songer/songwriter albums released this year that I've listened to.
Its easy to kinda be swept off when listening to this album. When I am in a peaceful and relaxed frame-of-mind this is just the right soundtrack.
While the incredibly bare musical palate here can be a bit... tiresome at times, this is a mostly rich and welcome listening experience from beginning to end.
Note: I am pretty sure that the main instrument Lael uses is a retro Omnichord, based off reviews and comments from others. I am by no means an expert and may be wrong.
