This performance has been floating around on various bootlegs and should have been heard by most loyal Replacements fans however appears for the first time on Spotify oddly enough in 2 different versions with the inclusion of “Can’t Hardly Wait” the only difference between the two

Performed on July 4 1991 at Chicago’s Grant Park in front of 50’000 music fans as part of a larger Chicago Festival it would turn out to be The Replacements fair well show before this 1A version of the band would go their separate ways. The only thing was no one knew this at the time, sure The Replacements knew but the wider audience certainly did not

And did they manage F Up this final show ? Of course they did ! It’s The Replacements. Let’s start with the set list. 8 songs off the underwhelming ‘All Shook Down’ and 2 from ‘Don’t Tell A Soul’ really let the air out of the performance, no “Bastards of Young” , “Left of the Dial” , “Here Comes a Regular” , “Alex Chilton” .... . Then half way through the concert the band simply looses interest and stops caring best summed up with Westerberg declaring “Here’s another one you don’t wanna hear . . . And frankly neither do I” . Eventually the band simply walk off the stage and send the roadies out to finish the encore “Hootenanny” instruments and all

The self sabotaging train wrecks had done it again and gone out as only they could
