Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.6/100, a mean average of 68.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.9.

Not a bad album, but a major disappointment after their incredible run through the late '80s and '90s. The adventurous evolution of their sound from Joshua Tree to Achtung Baby to Zooropa to Pop to All That You Can't Leave Behind was exciting as any major rock band since the Beatles ever had. For a while there, fans truly didn't know what to expect next. But How To Dismantle... marked the point where they stopped evolving in any sort of meaningful way and started chasing their own tails. The band still knows how to write a good song (Vertigo and Sometimes You Can't Make It) are highlights, but the sonic fearlessness is gone.

Very solid album. Thought they might be past their best by this point in their career but clearly not. City Of Blinding Lights and All Because Of You are stellar - 2 of their best songs in my opinion, very underrated. And you can't deny the quality of the overplayed Vertigo. One Step Closer and Miracle Drug are a bit flat but the rest of the album is very nice.

Far from a fan, but it's not as bad as it gets credit for, it definitely has its moments.

It's a pretty solid rock album. It's good and better than most but feels a bit safe for U2.

On 'How to Dismantle' U2 sounds like a mature rock band that enlives what it does best. The guitars of the Edge sound highly professional and the songs sound like they came from a batch of an inexhaustible source of good alternative rock music. For me this is the best U2 album both in overall.

This is my fourth favourite album by U2 and agree with others that it starts strong with Vertigo and Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own to the middle classic City of Blinding Lights to the final songs Yahweh and Fast Cars (the added track and should be the second song of the album in my opinion as it has the title track name in the song). Brilliant!

I miss a strong concept on this record. It is good but could be better!

To me this is a very meh album, this is my typical response to most of their post Achtung baby output. To me the band has become a caricature of themselves. it always seems like they are trying to be U2 instead of just making music.
