Bjork's always trying something different, this time she harkens back to the sound of her first few albums by using some brand new instrument creations. It's still bjork, and when tracks work, like "crystalline", they work well. i just wish she'd try more uptempo numbers like that -- a lot of tracks are slower, abstract numbers that lack enough cohesion to elicit repeat listens.

I rather enjoyed the song where she sang about Crystal Light and then went into the amen break for some reason. And that's about all.

Not as good as a lot of her previous albums, but it marks a slight step-up from "Volta" and no-one can doubt the sheer ambition she brings to each album. If her lyricism may seem slightly stale, the production certainly isn't. Like many of Björk's albums, "Biophilia" does manage to transport you to another world yet it also surprisingly has a couple of pop-like bangers ("Crystalline", "Mutual Core"). It's an interesting album that's well worth anyone's time.

Absolutely fantastic sublime and wonderful body of work by Björk! Don't ignore this one if you are not fan of previous work, whatever you do! I mean, I am not a big fan of some of the past albums and I have found something great on this one. The mood is spot on, like floating in a great chamber in the pitch black. Over time you begin to notice little tiny stars in the distance. The more time you spend on these little wonders you notice there are a few hundred. You are not alone at all. Suddenly the whole cocoon that is this strange place you have found yourself will open up in a wizz of machinery, all buzzing and hovering and booming, loud and friendly. Soon enough it will be gone again for the quiet. The quiet gems that scatter the album. Something I could listen to a great deal more times.

Pretty much the same thing I said for "Volta". Some of the tracks on here (I'm talking about "Crystalline", "Sacrifice" & "Mutual Core") are all really cool and a welcome change for Björk w.r.t genres, but quite a few tracks wander aimlessly into space. The "Dark Matter" and "Hollow" middle-section is suitably dark, but feels a bit like dead weight, and elsewhere there are pretty tracks (like "Virus" and "Solstice") that unfortunately don't hold a candle to her former glories. Nonetheless, it's a small improvement over "Volta" and a very good record.
