Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. A great collection of pop/rock songs.
I meant they were like the equivalent of The Beatles in Australia for a short time, which is a compliment. They were obviously influenced by them (just look at how they dressed), but of course they did their own thing.
@Xavygravy:I think that´s a bit unfair actually. Sure, like everybody they started out copying The Beatles. But they evolved into one of the most original, inventive (although perhaps not diverse) and brilliant bands of the 60s.
