Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.9/100, a mean average of 71.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.6.

Love this album, easily my favourite of 2021. A perfect album but I'm holding 5 marks back for its brevity, 8 songs that clock in at less than 25 minutes leaves me slightly unsatisfied. Having said that those 8 songs are perfect distillations of fuzzed out slacker rock, Dinosaur Jr would be the main touch point for me (the closer is knowingly called Feel The Pain) but it's somehow poppier and more experimental at the same time, some of the guitars veering into MBV territory. The overall tone of the album is a jaunty melancholia but the highlight for me is the relatively slow Cheer Up, Chihiro with its quiet/loud dynamics augmented by a wonderful blast of brass in the extended outro. I fully understand the sentiment of the previous commenter that this is 'generic indie rock' but I'd like to know what the 2005 comparisons are as this is very much drawing from the early 90's to my ears, much as Yuck were doing a decade or so ago. If you haven't heard it please go listen for yourself, especially if fuzzed out slacker rock is your thing.
Very much generic indie rock from 2005.
