One of her best - definitely during her peak... but not quite her best album.

Yes, I would rate it at three, I would put it less, but still Nina Simone is a phenomenon in jazz, traditional pop music, and even classical music. It's hard to deny her greatness and genius. Why not a top grade? Purely subjective reasons - I don't have a great attachment to vocal jazz, female vocals, objectively several songs from the album didn't arouse my interest.

Nina Simone is to my ears the greatest vocalist to have ever done it and this album is a prime example of that.
Nice singing and great lyrics about important topics at the time.

Some say that "I Put a Spell on You" is the closest that Nina Simone gets to pop, but I think this album has a great pop sensibility that keeps pushing track after track of tight, melodic songs. Highly recommended.
