Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.4/100, a mean average of 80.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.8.

Yes, goddammit! This is what I'm looking for. Quick burning, incendiary exaltations. Charcoal grey with slashes of gold searing through.
That mythical guitar at the end of "Release is in the Eye" sounds like a calliope, similar to what Manfred Mann plays (on a Moog. A freakin' Moog.) during the coda to Uriah Heap's "July Morning". I'd love to know how Ray Russell got that tone.
Bill Fay is incredible. I never heard of him until a few months ago. This album is immediately heavy and gripping. So much truth and spiritual yearning behind these songs. One of the greatest albums ever made.
The tag 'the missing link between Bob Dylan and Nick Drake' is bullshit. Not that this is bad, but is has nothing to do with Nick Drake. George Harrison would have been a better comparison with his spirituality. Still a very overlooked gem.
This singer has inspired me... to do great things.
One of the forgotten masterpieces of the 1970s. Fay's songwriting here is on par with the likes of contemporaries like Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and John Lennon. The influence it has had on Wilco is impossible to overlook.
