Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 25% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.5/100, a mean average of 73.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 10.6.

“Sometimes, Forever” is a step backwards. It lacks the emotional strength that boosted “Color theory”. The lyrics reference sadness but never with enough involvement to pass it to the listener. The production settles into a familiar spaciness that turns to sleepiness. It doesn’t have the variety it needs to give songs individual identities. It never becomes atrocious, but it never becomes much.

Ahhh Soccer Mommy :-)
Soccer Mommy does another batch of trendy indie pop songs that don't inspire much from me. It's music for young teenagers who haven't found better yet. Darkness Forever was kinda fun.
Very interesting production and beautiful soundscapes mostly brought down by boring songwriting.
The previous album was so frustrating, mainly in that it certainly felt quite personal but so musically trite and thin that it couldn't really support the emotional weight of the lyrics. This in turn feels like a much fuller and lush fleshing-out of the previous album's sound, adding in some more hazy and even vaguely surreal elements into her usually airy power pop/lonely-guitar ballad songs. The dips into more ominous, atmospheric angular alt-rock and splintered electronica is an interesting detour even if it still lives in the realm of 90s worship that certainly is at play throughout, even if it creates a more uneven experience. Certainly her best complete experience yet even if this album doesn't fully figure itself out.
