Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a mean average rating of 74.0/100. The trimmed mean (excluding outliers) is 73.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 10.4.

Color Theory shows its strength in its lyricism. "Bloodstream" wonderfully calls upon childhood imagery to create a feeling of emotional loss. "Yellow Is The Color Of Her Eyes" is also effective in making me feel the tragedy of a terminal illness. The albums quietness does work against it quite a bit for me. The acoustic guitar feels bare bones and a lot of the melodies feel taken from contemporaries. As the album went on I felt my investment lessening unfortunately.

Uninspired youtube-esque guitar music. Same old chord patterns, Shoegazey vocals. Not for me

Phenomenal. Heartfelt, sincere, emotional songs on this record even if they all sound a bit similar. Even on just the second listen-thru I feel some substantial growth, and assume it will only grow on me more. Definitely a great follow-up to Clean

Favorite tracks: Circle the Drain, Yellow is the Color of Her Eyes, Up The Walls, Lucy

The first three singles("Lucy", "Yellow is the Color of Her Eyes", "Circle the Drain") released for this album made me very hyped for it as a whole- each song was so unique, so creative, so melodically appealing in their own way. Unfortunately I'm not sure the album lives up; only because the expectations were so high. It's not quite as polished as I wanted and some of the songs feel unfinished or evidence of a "try it and see" kind of approach. The album as a whole thematically covers the subject of depression from different angles, conveying the concept very poignantly. But sometimes it feels a bit dragged down by its own weight. Still, happy to hear Soccer Mommy take a different direction and have some real hits as far as songwriting.

wow, this would've smashed the charts in the 90s and maybe early 2000s. lyrically sophie takes us to the strange mess of her mind, and it's not easy to swallow, to be honest. sometimes it hurts, how true it is and how one can relate. but somehow it's not a fully depressing album, because you hear how making music is helping her comprehend all those things.

favs: bloodstream, circle the drain, royal screw up (an amazing starting trio), crawling in my skin, lucy.
i really, really love this one, probably my favourite of 2020 this far.
