Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.2/100, a mean average of 69.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.7.

A truly wonderful album, undoubtedly their most accessible, mature, and shortest to date. Although not as daring as the band's previous LPs, it's enjoyable and easily listenable. In spite of the fact that I would say that the Arctic Monkeys are objectively a better band than The 1975 - Being Funny In A Foreign Language is certainly leagues above both Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, as well as The Car - and leaves me waiting in great anticipation for what they'll do next, as is the case with every 1975 release. Poppier and more cohesive than previous releases. (Edited)
Along with Mumford and Sons, The 1975 are one of the most polarising artists out there. Your either in the love em camp or loath them with a passion camp & just for the record I'm most certainly in the love em camp & I really don’t give a flying rats as to what other people think
After their Gen Z masterpiece 2018's 'A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships' 2020's companion piece 'Notes On A Conditional Form' was a bit of a hot mess and despite having some nice moments ultimately drowned under its bloated 80 minute run time and death by over production. Fortunately Being Funny . . . ' is a welcome return to form from the lads with Healy's self deprecating lyrics at their confessional snarky best (case in point lyric from "Part Of The Band" - "AM I IRONICALLY WOKE? THE BUTT OF MY JOKE")
The 1975 are mint (Edited)

I like how 'Being Funny In A Foreign Language' expands on The 1975's eighties pastiche kinda sound by leaning more into slightly alternative, The Waterboys-esque territory at times, which can perhaps be attributed in part to Jack Antonoff's writing and production influence. Although a quality LP overall, I have to agree with Copeland that it doesn't quite hit the lofty heights of 'A Brief Inquiry...', yet is somewhat more interesting than the majority of their output. It’s gonna take a few more listens to fully digest, but it’s to the point, sugary sweet, and most importantly: far shorter than their usual output. This is the closest they’ve gotten to matching A Brief Inquiry, which remains miles beyond any of their other albums. (Edited)
