“Flood” feels a bit less sharp than on “Beware of Dogs”. The writing has less powerful descriptions to it, being more a statement of feelings than a gathered point. The quieter piano tracks are, unfortunately, a weak link. The meekness of their production limits the emotional expression. Donnelly’s voice remains a highlight with her emotive delivery. For example, in “Medals”, she delivers the last word of the chorus with an adorable yelp. Understated but some of her charm remains.
