Even though I swore to never return to a Smashing Pumpkins contemporary release after 2020’s diabolically bad ‘CYR’, against my better judgement I’m back for ‘Atum Act 1’
Claimed to be a third and concluding sequel to ‘Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness’ and its follow up ‘Adore’ (since when was ‘Adore’ a concept album?) this album picks up where ‘CYR’ left off in all the worst ways with uninspired insipid track one after the other with the only respite being a merciful end to the album. Hell, the “Vengabus - ish” “Hooray” is hands down the single worst Smashing Pumpkins track in history and that really is saying something considering the bar has been set pancake low in recent times (if you’d have told me 25 years ago I’d be comparing the Smashing Pumpkins to Vengabus I wouldn’t have believed you)
Unfortunately there are 2 more of these to come in 2023 - Act 2 on 31st January and Act 3 11 weeks after that. Please feel free to post reviews so I can read them because I will not be listening to them
