Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.4/100, a mean average of 70.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.1.

This album would’ve been a huge success back in like…2003…as I feel 72 Seasons is the album everyone was expecting from Metallica back in the Early-2000’s instead of St. Anger.

Unfortunately, 72 Seasons came out twenty years later in 2023…a year and decade when rock as a mainstream music format is all but completely dead and new rock albums especially new albums by classic longtime big bands like Metallica don’t sell nearly as well as they use to.

Anyways, it’s the best album Metallica has released since Reload (1997).

Solid album from these behemots of metal.

The highs in this album are great and reminding that Metallica is still going at it full force.
Riffs & Vocals are kickin'asses.
The heaviness is just right.
But most of all, the overall sound is tight and impactfull.

The main flaws in my experience would be this
-A little repetiveness, or at least a feeling of hearing more of the same
-I hoped for a little more "wild explosions" in these repetitiv-feeling moments

Best album by Metallica since... Load, perhaps even the black album. Solid throughout and overall suprisingly good!

They are coming to terms with the modern music industry. The album doesn't have to be a tight 45 minutes. This is a collection that you can pick and choose from. They still have energy and drive and the return to some of their earliest influences (Lemmy would have nailed the vocal for Lux Aeterna) is great. Not every track hits the mark but there are some outstanding moments and they are still the greatest metal band of all time.

Ok, you can tell that the guys have worked hard on this album (except for Kirk who has been on a 30 year surfing holiday). It's not 'Classic Metallica' but lets face it, few bands are capable of writing 'Classic Metallica' albums (even Metallica) but there is a real polish to the song writing on this one. I think with each successive album since St Anger, they have produced better material but since St Anger, the only way was up anyways. 72 Seasons gets better with each listen, which is the opposite to the experience I was getting from the previous 3 albums. Please give it a chance, you know they need the support. 8/10

I really like the song on this album where James Hetfield shouts the title during the chorus

I've never been a huge fan of this kind of music. With that said, I am really impressed by this album. It has the energy of a debut, of a band coming out of the gate, and these guys are like 60 years old. I am no expert on their catalog but from what I know this can stand with their best work. Astounding.
