Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 45.0/100, a mean average of 44.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 44.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 24.7.

Confuso e raivoso, mas não é ruim.
There are some decent riffs on this. However they are so scattered and segmented throughout the tracks that the songs and whole album is massively disjointed. I can see why this is known as Metallica's worst album. It's shite.
What kind of sad world do we live in where an album like this goes #1 on the Billboard Charts and sells over two million copies in America…yet and album like Switchfoot’s Oh! Gravity (2006) doesn’t even go Gold and only debuts at #18 on the charts. Think of all the amazing Christian albums that barely made a dent in sales and yet crap like Metallica’s St. Anger can still go Mult-Platinum.
It just goes to show you that big name bands like Metallica can SELL ANYTHING NO MATTER HOW BAD IT IS and Metallica fanboys will EAT UP ANYTHING with the “METALLICA” name on the brand.
I went onto the metallica page of this site, and I saw that the only album of theirs that I hadn't rated yet was St. Anger. I then realized that I did rate it, but I didn't see it because I gave it a 5/100. Anyway, on to the review. This album is garbage, with no reedeeming qualities. Please go listen to Master of Puppets instead.
It's not THAT bad. The first three tracks are ok, if long-winded, and the Unnamed Feeling has a fun riff. Load and Reload are hardly much better, let alone Death Magnetic and Hardwired. The production is awful, but at least its sound is unique. I'd rather listen to Frantic or St. Anger than most of the tracks on anything past the Black Album.
It is incredible how a resourceful band like Metallica can sound so terrible. The production is awful and the drums are a torture to listen to. There are some creative sparks, but they are buried under that terrible production making it onwe of the worst Metallica albums
Call it alternative metal, call it nu metal, call it whatever. Any way you look at this album, it sucks. Easily the worst material Metallica has ever done.

Starts off bad and just gets worse. That snare will get in your head man.
