When this album came out I was really disappointed that it wasn't as engaging as Writer's Block. But I think the album has aged pretty well for the most part. A few of the songs have a bad, repellent, commercial sound that some Europop bands fall ill with, kind of an antiseptic sound that you hear over the speakers at the Gap or in the background of a TV commercial for exciting soy milk or whatever. ("Dig a Little Deeper" makes me lunge for the stop button.) But most of the songs hold up OK. "May Seem Macabre" in particular is a really nice song. I guess I respect the album more than I want to hear it.

Between Hot Chip and Peter Bjorn & John, this is as pop as IDM can be, all while using "live" instruments for the most part. Hit songs abound! "second chance" only hints at the danceable pop brilliance inside.
