I love what they brought to hip hop. Much respect to them. Unfortunately, I find them annoying to listen to a lot and I do believe that compared to a lot of other acts, they are slightly over-rated by people who don't understand hip hop. That being said, Beastie Boys are legends in their field.

Musical game changers that started out as a hardcore punk band as documented on the album Some Old Bullshit and evolved into a group who rapped over samples of rock and popular culture and their own instruments coming up with something original and highly entertaining.
Combine rap, hip-hop, jazz, funk, rock and a whole lot of wit in their rhymes to create some of my favourite albums of all time. MCA was a hell of an MC too.

Very solid band.

I agree with captain dude, paul's boutique is amazing and the rest of the albums are inconsistent... but still a lot of great tracks.

RIP MCA... These white boys from New York redefined the genre twice. First, when they infused hip-hop with a punk rock attitude, second, when they added funky jazz samples and loops to their tracks. One of my all-time favourites.
