A very flat and rather disappointing album especially when you consider the talent available on this album. A shame because there is some potential here but it's let down all around.
Mediocre songs, lacklustre playing and sloppy production.
American Dream is more disappointing than bad. I actually like this album, but after years of waiting for Neil Young to rejoin Crosby, Stills & Nash this album didn't really come close to rivaling Deja Vu. The album isn't really that cohesive, and probably a little too long, but there are a handful of songs I like. Young also feels like a bit more of a bandmember this time around as he plays on every track and contributes harmonies on many as well which he didn't do much in Deja Vu. Young and Stills' material has the most presence on the album and its their pieces that stand out.
