Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 5% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.0/100, a mean average of 79.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.1.

I knew virtually only about Tommy James And The Shondells via the two hits "Hanky Panky" and "Crimson and Clover". Both numbers are in their own ways both catchy and durable, so I thought it would be interesting to learn more about the group.

I learned thst the group had several big hits, but besides the two aforementioned, I recognized only "Mony Mony", which has a nice catchy beat, and "Ball of Fire", which is also worth a re-listen. "Sugar on Sunday" is decent, but otherwise, I must say that the rest of the songs on this compilation do not make any impression on me. The individual songs may seem nice and well done, but they lack an overall profile, and it can actually be both tiring and enervating to hear one uninteresting popsong after the other

I could really well have contented myself with the five songs mentioned. A lengthy experience.

A good CD for exploring the work of this band. All of their famous songs are here, although the butcher job done to Crimson & Clover is a crime.
