Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 14% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.3/100, a mean average of 74.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.6.

For acid house, this album is pretty creative and the music is well put together. They hired some good singers, and I like the rapping (could have used more of that). Some of the tracks are a bit unfocused, but still an enjoyable album for listening.

Not a perfect album. Too much is unfocused. The versions of the preceding singles are great, but the version of Last Train To Trancentral is a mess, almost unrecognisable from the stadium house masterpiece it would become when remixed for a single. (Although I see on Discogs that the later international versions of the CD do contain the single mix so keep that in mind). The version of 'Justified and Ancient' is good, really atmospheric with Black Steel's vocal. 'Build a Fire' is good too, but so much of this album is filler that sounds dated.

Part of the problem lies in the fact that these are old songs that they kept reworking, copying the latest styles in dance music (they talk about this stealing-latest-beats-in-the-clubs process in some interviews and their book 'The Manual'): In 1988 they were releasing euro-trance house versions, by 1989 when they first recorded but never released this album, it was Todd Terry style piano house, and now in 1991 they are re-recorded as "stadium house". This albums captures the songs when they hadn't quite mastered that, as they shortly would with the next three amazing singles.

A fine if uneven effort. I still listen to it once in a while just for old times sake. Love the Tammy cut.

Contains two strong singles in What Time Is Love? and 3 A.M. Eternal, as well as one annoying single in Justified and Ancient. The remaining six songs are pointless filler.
