Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.2/100, a mean average of 69.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.7.

I usually take John Cale track by track; there's not an album of his I love from start to finish...except this one. The sputtering rage and fear is cathartic, this is an album to play LOUD. One of the very few times either Cale or Lou came anywhere near the level of the banana peel album, to my ears. It's not a masterpiece like that album--I rate the banana album a 100--but this does have a similar intensity. I've loved this one for decades.

Edit: Watch out for track 4, there's a repeated, definitely questionable at best, use of the n-word that could really offend if it comes out of the blue, if you didn't sort of grow up with this album.

Splendid first two tracks, after which it's a bit hit or miss. Title track is good in an outrageous way. Check this album out by all means, probably not the place to start a Cale voyage though.
